Today, American Conservatory Theater announced new performance dates and initial casting information for A.C.T. Out Loud, a series of filmed play readings featuring enduring works by some of the greatest minds of generations past. These plays have the power to reach across time, speaking both to the age in which they were written and the ever-changing currents of today, and include works that have been long-celebrated as well as those that have not received the attention they are due. The three upcoming readings are: Alice Childress s Trouble in Mind, directed by Awoye Timpo (In Old Age at New York Theatre Workshop; The Homecoming Queen at Atlantic Theater Company); George Bernard Shaw s Arms and the Man, directed by 2020 SAG Award nominee, Obie Award winner, and Tony Award nominee Colman Domingo (Ma Rainey s Black Bottom on Netflix; The Scottsboro Boys on Broadway, Fear The Walking Dead on AMC); and Thornton Wilder s The Matchmaker, directed by Dawn Monique Williams (Moon Man Walk a

Always expect the unexpected, especially in this unpredictable awards season.
I’ve been wondering if we might see the “WTF nomination” on Oscar-noms morning. I’m talking about an actor who is catapulted into the race without any previous mentions from the most crucial televised awards shows BAFTA, Critics Choice, the Golden Globes and SAG. Not many can achieve it, but it’s usually telling of a film’s support within the Academy when that occurs. Some “WTFs” in the past decade have been Javier Bardem (“Biutiful”), Bradley Cooper (“American Sniper”), Laura Dern (“Wild”), Marina de Tavira (“Roma”), Jonah Hill (“The Wolf of Wall Street”), Max von Sydow (“Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close”) and Jacki Weaver (“Silver Linings Playbook”).

NEW YORK (AP) - Chadwick Boseman received two posthumous nominations from the 27th Screen Actors Guild Awards on Thursday, while the Korean American family drama Minari and Spike Lee s Vietnam veteran drama Da 5 Bloods were among the nominees for best ensemble.
The nominees, announced on Instagram Live, differed notably from the Golden Globe nominations announced the day before. While the Hollywood Foreign Press Association spurned films with largely non-white casts in its tops awards, the actors guild nominated a strikingly more diverse slate of nominees for its top award, best ensemble.

But not so fast.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences doesn t even begin its Oscar nomination voting period until March 5 (the Oscar nominees will be announced on March 15), and a lot can still happen between now and then. Additionally, there are major differences in terms of composition and inclination between the groups that determine the noms for the Golden Globes, SAG Awards and Oscars.
Golden Globe nominations are decided by roughly 90 Los Angeles-based journalists for foreign media outlets; SAG noms are determined by approximately 2,500 randomly selected U.S.-based members of SAG-AFTRA, the world s largest union of actors; and acting Oscar noms reflect the tastes of 1,363 (by last count) of members of the actors branch of the Academy, an organization comprised of people based all around the world.
