Vearey was found on May 27 to have brought the name of the police into disrepute for eight Facebook posts between December 7, 2020 and February 25, 2021, which in some cases featured pictures of the national commissioner Khehla Sitole, and links to stories and documents. In one such example on December 7, 2020, he posted a picture of the police national commissioner with a message that read “Good morning and how is the mind today? Prinsloo had been convicted and sentenced in 2016 on 20 charges ranging from racketeering, corruption and money laundering relating to the smuggling and dealing of lethal weapons worth around R9 million with Cape Town gangsters. They appeared in the Cape Town Magistrate s Court on Monday morning with heavily armed police officers and officials in attendance. Modack, Cronje and Morgan spent the weekend behind bars after they were arrested on Thursday, following investigations by the Hawks national task team, a special task force, the Anti-Gang Unit, Vehicle Safeguarding Unit, and Crime Scene Management.
