Anger at plans for 102 new homes off London Road, Stanway

CYCLING experts have hit out at plans for 102 new homes to be built off a busy road near a retail park in Stanway. Colchester Cycling Campaign has objected to Persimmon Homes Essex s proposals to build the properties on land to the rear of 296 London Road, near Tollgate. The properties will be a mix of two, three and four-bed houses and one and two-bed flats. A total of 31 are set to be affordable homes, with 220 parking spaces provided on the estate. The site has been allocated for new homes in Colchester Council’s Local Plan and Persimmon says the new estate would contribute to the borough’s five year housing supply.

Works on Colchester rapid transit system to start in 2021

GROUND investigation works to create a new bus lane off a busy road in Colchester are set to start, with construction likely to start this year. Boreholes, trial trenches and observation pits are set to be created in Northern Approach Road over the next three or four weeks. The area is being investigated in preparation for the creation of a new priority lane, which will be used by the town s so-called rapid transit system. Workers will be taking various samples and installing equipment in the area to monitor groundwater. Essex Highways has written to residents in the area advising them of the ground investigation works.

Anger at designs for 1,000 home estate at Middlewick in Colchester

The Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) has released a vision document for Middlewick Ranges, off Mersea Road, Colchester. Once military operations cease in 2022 The Wick, as it is affectionately known by residents, 1,000 homes are set to be built on part of the site. The vision document says a two class per year primary school will be built along with a new community hub featuring retail, leisure and community facilities. The site has been allocated for homes in Colchester Council’s Local Plan, but Berechurch and Old Heath and Hythe’s councillors have called for plans to be taken off the table.
