Golden Hawks Split With Comets

The Mid-Prairie boys and girls basketball teams hosted the Bellevue Comets Friday in a River Valley Conference doubleheader. The Golden Hawk girls fell to the sixth ranked Comets 47-34. Mid-Prairie started quickly, opening the game on a 10-1 run and leading 12-5 after one quarter and 21-17 at half. The Comets took control of the game out of half with a 16-5 run that lasted the entire third quarter and put the game away outscoring the Hawks 14-8 in the fourth. Bellevue outrebounded Mid-Prairie 31-22 and turned the Golden Hawks over 18 times. Teresa Paulsen put together a double double for Bellevue with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Ka’Lynn DeShaw added 12 points. Mid-Prairie was led by Maddie Nonnenmann’s 19 points and nine rebounds. Bellevue improves to 15-1 with the win, Mid-Prairie falls to 8-8.

Golden Hawks Host Comets

The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys and girls basketball teams welcome Bellevue to Wellman Friday for a River Valley Conference doubleheader. The Golden Hawk girls enter action with an overall record of 8-7 on the year, 8-6 in the River Valley Conference. They were last in action a over week ago when they beat Tipton on Senior Night in Wellman 38-33 behind Maddie Nonnenmann’s 13 points and Phelan Hostetler’s 11. On the season, the Hawks are led by Nonnenmann at 13 points and seven rebounds per game. Amara Jones leads Mid-Prairie with four assists and three steals per game. Bellevue is 14-1 on the season, 13-1 in the River Valley Conference. The Comets are ranked No. 6 in class 2A in the most recent poll from the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. Winners of eight in a row, they beat Wilton last time out 51-41 behind 16 points from Audrey Wedeking.
