A BORDERS hotel has been rescued from closure and will soon welcome back guests. The Waverley Castle Hotel, near Melrose, faced an uncertain future last year when its owner at the time, Shearings Hotels, went into administration. Now under new ownership, the 77-bedroom business will reopen on Monday (May 17) in line with the relaxation of coronavirus rules. Bespoke Hotel’s portfolio managing director Paul FitzGerald said: “Given the enormous challenges of the last few months, we’re delighted to bring the Waverley Castle hotel back to market. He added: “It’s a lovely property in a delightful location, and we know the initial closure was felt keenly amongst the local community.

A Whitby hotel has been saved from administration and is set to reopen next month. The Royal Hotel, on West Cliff, along with three other North Yorkshire hotels - the Hotel St George in Harrogate as well as the New Southlands and Norbreck hotels in Scarborough - will open their doors again as part of the Coast & Country Hotel Collection.

Two seafront Norfolk hotels which had been set to shut for good will reopen under new owners next month.
The Grade II listed sites, the Carlton Hotel in Great Yarmouth and the Golden Lion Hotel in Hunstanton will reopen as part of the Coast & Country Hotel Collection, a newly formed group of former Shearings Hotels.
The Shearings Hotels group collapsed last summer owing more than £200m with 2,500 people losing their jobs.

However both hotels are now set to reopen on May 17 with each site hiring around 40 people, with the aim to actively recruit people who previously lost their jobs at the sites.
