From his big superpower neighbours that he seeks, he wants technical help for his own weapons programme. North korea faces critical technological hurdles in its nuclear and missile development, and beyond that, it needs foreign currency and oil, all of which the russians can provide. It is not the first time the Us National Security council has declassified information to get ahead of russias plans. Two us sources say the Arms Negotiations between the two countries are actively advancing. And in recent weeks, mr kim has visited a series of his ammunition factories, exhorting key officials to step up production. Begs the question, why . Sergey radchenko is an expert on Russian Politics and a distinguished professor at the henry a Kissinger Center for global affairs. Thank you for being with us this evening. What does this tell us, then, about the russian State Of Affairs on the front line, if they need ammunition from north korea . The sin of affairs has not been great for russia for a
Flooding. The emergency, first responders, and hundreds of water rescues. Also breaking as we come on tonight, israel now launching dozen office air strikes on the Southern Gaza city of rafah. The israeli war cabinet approving plans to launch a Ground Attack. It all comes just as hamas now says it has agreed to a potential ceasefire, though different terms from what was offered in cent days. So, what both sides are now saying at this hour. Here at home tonight, the protests on College Campuses over the war. Tonight, columbia now canceling its main commencement ceremony. And more than 100 arrested in california. Tonight, the news coming in, an american soldier has been detained in russia. Martha raddatz standing by with late reporting. Tonight, the drama in court. President trumps criminal trial. The judge telling trump, the fines against him are not working. Telling the former president , jail is now a possibility. The judge telling trump, at the end of the day, i have a job to do. Ton
The republicans, who hold a slim majority in the house of representatives, are at a deadlock, with members on the right of the party demanding wide ranging spending cuts. One of that groups main objections has been the white houses request for an additional 24 billion in aid to ukraine. Tonight, mr mccarthy urged the senate to drop that measure from its resolution. I think if we had a clean one without ukraine on it, we could probably be able to move that through. I think if the senate puts ukraine on there and focuses ukraine over america, i think that could cause real problems. Megan scully is Bloomberg Congress editor and she joined me in the last hour. What is your initial reaction to this news from Speaker Mccarthy . That if ukraine was removed, a deal might be on the table. This is one of many ideas that are percolating this evening. The closer we get to the deadline, the more ideas seem to be giving birth by both sides. This latest offer, not even quite an offer proposal, someth
Bill, Kevin Mccarthy said it is not over yet. Earlier, i sopke to republican congressman ken buck, who voted against republican Speaker Of The House Kevin Mccarthys temporary Spending Bill this afternoon. House republicans just held a conference. What came out of that . Well, theres a few different possibilities. The one that is most likely to happen is we will start working tomorrow passing Appropriations Bills with regular order, and then make sure the next pay paycheque that is due is made. But in the meantime, we will be in work, we will pass bills, we will send those to the senate, and we will keep the government open funded bill by bill by bill. What will keep the government open funded bill by bill by bill. Bill by bill by bill. What does that mean, bill by bill by bill. What does that mean. That bill by bill by bill. What does that mean. That a bill by bill by bill. What does that mean, that a shutdown bill by bill by bill. What does that mean, that a shutdown would bill by bil
Earlier, my colleague Sumi Somaskanda spoke to robert costa of cbs news, about a potential path to a deal and the obstacles mr mccarthy would have to overcome. At this point, there is a viable path. Based on my conversations with some House Republicans today about getting the government funded for a short period, maybe three or four days, maybe a week, maybe two weeks that would be whats called a short term, clean, Continuing Resolution. Some kind of stopgap bill to keep the government running as negotiations are ongoing and negotiations are ongoing. House speaker Kevin Mccarthy is struggling to get his republican members to come around to a consensus. Theres a real debate among republicans about how to handle immigration with any kind of government funding bill, how far to go. So far, mccarthy has really been toiling in terms of getting members of the so called House Freedom caucus, the hard line conservatives, to come along. What does this mean for Kevin Mccarthy . 21 21 republicans
