CLEMSON, S.C. Clemson rising sophomore Andrew Swanson finished tied for 14th at the United States Open Sectional Qualifier at Jupiter, Florida on Monday evening. He missed the cut to advance to the US Open in Boston later this month by just four shots.Swanson had scores of 70-73 for a one-under-par 143 at the 36-hole qualifier held at the Club @ Admiral Cove. The top four players in the 70-player field advanced. Swanson was third among amateurs in the field. Among the players he finished ahead of was Wake Forest All-American Alex Fitzpatrick. He finished just three shots behind noted PGA player Rickie Fowler, who is the number-one alternate with a two-under-par score for the 36 holes.Swanson’s one-under-par 70 in the first round included four birdies. He also had four birdies in the second round, but also had a pair of double bogeys.Swanson qualified for the sectional tournament with a 71 at the local qualifier at DeBordieu Golf Club in Georgetown, S.C. back in May.
