Five months after IBM said it would spend $1 billion on its partner ecosystem, Big Blue on Tuesday unveiled a host of changes to its partner program, including new partner competencies and benefits.
“There’s never been a better time to be in IBM’s ecosystem,” David La Rose, general manager of IBM’s partner ecosystem, told CRN. “There’s $1 billion that is in the market today, and that is only going to help them (partners) to get to revenue faster and sooner.”

IBM boss Arvind Krishna said that the company’s latest investments have the company poised to continue with capturing cloud share.
In a new letter to investors, Krishna outlined areas where IBM has invested in hybrid cloud and artificial intelligence and discussed how the company is driving growth going forward. Ultimately, IBM “is positioned to lead as we enter the era of hybrid cloud and AI,” Krishna said.
“Every company in every industry wants to build a much stronger digital foundation to fundamentally change the way its business works,” Krishna said in the letter. “There is no going back. In the next two to three years, we expect to see digital transformation at a rate that, before 2020, we thought would take 5 to 10 years.”
For 2020 IBM India’s research and development centre emerged as the second highest in terms of filing patents. Indian engineers and researchers filed 930 patents. More importantly, the recently launched IBM Cloud Satellite, a significant play in its shift of being a company focused on hybrid cloud, data and AI, saw important contribution from India.
