The city of Santa Cruz recently announced the release of the public review draft of its downtown plan expansion project, which would change the zoning in the neighborhood south of Laurel Street to pave the way for a new stadium and a series of highrise buildings. Community members are urged to provide their feedback about the document by July 10.
A community meeting for the 18-story mixed-use high-rise proposed by developer Workbench, Clocktower Center, will be held virtually at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
A public hearing for two appeals opposing the proposed five-story mixed-use development on the site of Food Bin and Herb Room was delayed and pushed to a Santa Cruz City Council meeting in late May after the developer submitted new plans for the project a day before the meeting. The city of Santa Cruz Planning Commission will also review the last-minute changes and consider a recommendation at their meeting on May 16.
The Santa Cruz Town Clock could be overshadowed in the coming years by an 18-story mixed-use high-rise building dubbed Clocktower Center by local development firm Workbench, who submitted plans for the project, and an eight-story alternative building in early March.
