Covid business grants update: pubs have one week left to apply for Christmas Support Payment

Leader of Wiltshire Council, Cllr Philip Whitehead WILTSHIRE Council is urging owners and managers of pubs to submit their applications for the Christmas Support Payment before the deadline expires on January 31. This is due to the alarming rise in coronavirus cases and deaths reported locally and nationally. The Isles of Scilly is the only place which remains in Tier 1. The stricter rules in Salisbury mean that pubs, restaurants and bars are forced to close until further notice, but are allowed to operate a takeaway service. Non-essential retail, gyms, hairdressers and beauty salons can remain open. Cllr Philip Whitehead, Leader of Wiltshire Council, said restrictions are in place for a very good reason and residents are urged to stay at home and stay local. He said: “We have seen a recent rise in COVID-19 cases so we all have to keep playing our part and support each other as much as possible.

This means that the existing restrictions remain in place. These include: People must not socialise with anyone they do not live with or who is not in their support bubble in any indoor setting, whether at home or in a public place. People must also not socialise in a group of more than six people outside, including in a garden or public space. Businesses and venues can remain open in a COVID secure manner, other than those that are closed by law. Pubs and bars may not provide alcohol for consumption on the premises, unless with a substantial meal, so they are operating as a restaurant. They may remain open for takeaway services.
