Councillor Angie Dale, leader of Richmondshire District Council, came under fire after she was quoted in a press release sent out on Friday, January 8 urging people to heed the stay local message amid surging Covid cases in the area. At the time Mrs Dale and her family were 5,000 miles away on the island of Kudahuvadhoo in the Maldives. Councillor Dale, who is leader of the independent group on the council has returned from holiday but has not responded to requests to comment. Cllr Leslie Rowe, of the green party, who has called on her to resign says she has brought the council into disrepute.

It was sent out while Cllr Dale, who represents Colburn – one of the worst affected areas – was on holiday with her family 5,000 miles away on the island of Kudahuvadhoo in the Maldives. Fellow councillor Leslie Rowe, who represents the Green Party, said he was gobsmacked when he received a copy of the the press release and believes Cllr Dale should reconsider her position on the council.
