A statement and photo on Wisbech Town Council Facebook page says the mayor, Cllr Aigars Balsevics, and his deputy, Cllr Andrew Lynn “both wanted to place flowers and send donations to their chosen charities”.
Whittlesey town clerk Sue Piergianni said that “with the sad passing of the Duke of Edinburgh, the town council have opened a book of condolence”.
The book will be in the council chamber at Peel House, 8 Queen Street, Whittlesey and will be available to sign Monday to Thursday between 10.00 and 2.00pm and Friday until 1.30.
She said flowers may be laid in the garden of Remembrance (Strawbear Garden) on Station Road.

Town councillors who refused to help an organisation tackling homelessness gained an insight into Fenland District Council’s “exciting plans” on dealing with the issue just days later.
Town clerk Terry Jordan confirmed that talks led by council leader, Cllr Sam Hoy, about a separate seminar on homelessness were ongoing with Fenland Council before town councillors met on February 1.

Mr Jordan said: “The seminar was not in response to Cllr Patrick’s proposition and councillors had not been informed by February 1 that a seminar was being proposed.”
Between April and December last year, Fenland Council made 174 preventions of rough sleeping and homelessness through privately-rented, social and supported housing or decided to stay at home.
