Formulate policy to ensure persons eligible for second dose of COVID vaccine get it on priority, says PIL in HC ANI | Updated: May 03, 2021 23:28 IST
New Delhi [India], May 3 (ANI): A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been moved in Delhi High Court seeking directions to the Centre, Delhi Government and others to formulate a policy to ensure that all persons who have been given first shot of COVID-19 vaccine should be given the second dose on priority.
The plea said that police shall ensure the process more specifically on different days, timings with the people taking the first dose in a separate line so that they are not put into inconvenience. In this manner, chaos and spread of COVID-19 will be prevented and vaccination will be done smoothly, it said.

Johnson and Johnson (J&J) has submitted an application to the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) seeking permission to conduct a local bridging study of its single-dose Janssen COVID-19 vaccine in India, according to news reports. The multinational pharma has also sought permission for an import licence.
As of now, India has two vaccines for its citizens: Oxford/Astrazeneca vaccine COVISHIELD manufactured by Serum Institute in India. Besides this, there is the indigenously developed COVAXIN by Bharat Biotech. A third vaccine approved by the Indian drug regulator is Sputnik V which is developed in Russia. It will be imported and sold in India by Dr Reddy s Laboratories.

Multinational pharma giant Johnson & Johnson (J&J) has sought permission to conduct phase 3 clinical trials of its single-shot Covid-19 vaccine in India. J&J on Monday applied to India s drug regulator to seek a nod to hold phase 3 trials as well as an import licence.
Sources told PTI the company has sought an early meeting of the subject expert committee on Covid-19 of the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) to take a decision on its application.
The development comes close to the heels of the central government deciding to fast-track emergency approvals for all foreign-produced coronavirus jabs that have been given a similar nod by the World Health Organization (WHO) or regulators in the United States, Europe, Britain or Japan on the backdrop of rising Covid-19 cases in the country and shortage of vaccines.
