The Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency encourages you to get tested for HIV. HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) is the virus that if left untreated causes AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome). The Centers for Disease Control recommends everyone between the ages of 13 and 64 get tested for HIV at least once. Those persons at higher risk should be tested more often. Persons at higher risk are having unprotected sex, having sex with multiple partners, having or had sex with someone known to have HIV, have shared needles, syringes or other drug injection items with others, have exchanged sex for drugs or money, or have been diagnosed or treated for a sexually transmitted disease, hepatitis, or tuberculosis.
