Half of the IPCC Scenarios to Limit Warming Don’t Work The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change showcased 50 scenarios to limit global warming to 1.5°C above preindustrial temperatures. Even compared to 2°C of warming, meeting this goal would significantly curtail the extent of heat waves and other extremes induced by rising temperatures. But by 2017, the world had already reached 1°C above preindustrial levels and is projected to hit 1.5°C in 2040 with the current pace of warming.

21.07.2021 Klimanotstand aus rechtlicher Sicht: Einordnung für Kommunen Kommunen spielen eine wichtige Rolle bei der Bekämpfung des Klimawandels. Viele von ihnen setzen dabei auf den so genannten „Klimanotstand“. Mehr als 70 Gemeinden in Deutschland haben ihn seit 2019 bereits ausgerufen. Wie sich die Resolutionen juristisch auswirken, bleibt aber oft ungewiss. Eine neue Kurzübersicht der Helmholtz-Klima-Initiative ordnet mögliche rechtliche Konsequenzen ebenso ein wie den zu erwartenden Nutzen und typische Inhalte der Entschließungen. Viele kommunale Resolutionen zum Klimanotstand enthalten bereits konkrete Beschlüsse für einen verbesserten Klimaschutz. Für Städte und Gemeinden können die Entschließungen somit ein guter Anlass sein, um ihren eigenen Weg zur Klimaneutralität zu beschreiten.
