Clemson, S.C. It was a historic day for the Clemson menâs soccer program, as Philip Mayaka (#3), Kimarni Smith (#4) and Justin Malou (#27) were all taken in the opening round of Thursdayâs 2021 MLS SuperDraft. Todayâs draft marked the first time in program history that three Clemson players were selected in the first round, in addition to it also being the first time two Tigers were taken within the draftâs top-five picks. During Head Coach Mike Noonanâs 11-year tenure at the helm of Clemsonâs program, the Tigers have had 17 players selected in the annual MLS SuperDraft, with seven of those players having been drafted during the past three seasons. âItâs a historic day in the long history and tradition of our soccer program,â reflected Noonan following the draft. âIâm very proud of the players, and to have seven players drafted in the last three years speaks really well to Clemson and our program and the steps our staff has been able to take in developing our
WINSTON SALEM, N.C. â No. 18 Clemson (13-5-1) went on the road and controlled the entirety of the ACC semifinal match at No. 20 Wake Forest (14-5-0), defeating the fourth-seeded No. 20 Demon Deacons 2-0 on Wednesday night. Just as they did in the ACC quarterfinal victory over Duke, Brandon Parrish and Derek Waleffe found the back of the net and gave Clemson the victory. With the win, Clemson advanced to its 10th ACC Championship match, and as the No. 8 seed, became the lowest seed to ever reach the final. This will be the fifth time in Mike Noonanâs 13 season tenure that his Tigers will play for the ACC title. The Tigers came into the match and immediately took it to the home side. Clemson held its opponent to zero shots in the first half for the first time all season, while testing Wakeâs keeper four times. Brandon Parrish struck first for the Tigers, as the junior midfielder took a pass from Ousmane Sylla and blasted a right-footed shot from well outside the penalty area th
PITTSBURGH, Pa. â The No. 23 Clemson menâs soccer team secured a hard-earned point on Friday night against No. 25 Pitt, playing the Panthers to a 1-1 draw in a hostile road environment. The Tigers earned four points total in their back-to-back road ACC matchups. âI was very proud of the guys,â said Head Coach Mike Noonan on the performance. âIt was two tough ACC games in less than a week and Iâm really proud we were able to grit out the point. I thought we might have deserved more. We faded a little in the second half but I was really proud of the way the team played.â A back and forth first half seemed destined for a scoreless ending until an Alvaro Gomez corner kick found the head of Adam Lundegard. The center back flicked the ball past the keeper into the right side netting to put Clemson up 1-0 just before half. https://twitter.com/ClemsonMSoccer/status/1578550124728434688?s=20&t=DDYSzO0XXiLfjPCLYY3bbQ The lead did not last too long, as in the 51st minute, a
CLEMSON, S.C. â No. 1 Clemson pushed past Presbyterian College (5-1-0) under the lights at Historic Riggs thanks to electric performances by freshman duo Marco Garcia and Tyler Trimnal. The Tigers advance to (7-1-0) in 4-0 fashion as Garcia recorded his first career goal and hat trick, becoming the first freshman Tiger to score a hat trick since Eric Quill in 1996. After subbing on during the 36th minute, Garciaâs first goal came just 30 seconds before the end of the first half. After an Enrique Montana cross caromed off Isaiah Easley, Garcia was in the perfect place to put the ball past the keeperâs near post and give Clemson the 1-0 advantage. https://twitter.com/ClemsonMSoccer/status/1572012265305702401?s=20&t=ezUT8A6dUt747EjQ8e9OQg Within just five minutes of the start of the second half, Garcia tallied the Tigerâs second and third goal of the night. The second came in the 47th minute with assists from Tim StrĂśbeck and Mohamed Seye. Just three minutes later, Garcia
