Diablo. Overnight, the fire doubled in size since it broke out yesterday afternoon around 1 30 and we just received new numbers on how big the fire is right now. So far, it has burned more than 3,000 acres. These are live pictures of some of the fire lines from newschopper2. Crews are getting a handle on it and right now its 20 contained and nearly 100 homes are under a mandatory evacuation. Rosemary orozco is tracking the fire conditions and brian flores is talking to evacuees. We begin our coverage with Tara Moriarty who joins us live near the fire lines in clayton. Weve noticed flames leap up over the ridge several times since weve been here for the of past couple of hours. Now it seems its quieting down. The smoke is a whitish color. Now. We continue following developing news this morning as an outofcontrol wildfire on mt. Diablo is spreading. Theres a little bit of a breeze out of the west. But not much. 57 walnut creek. You get up towards 1500 feet, 3800 feet, its much warmer, in the 70s. 76 around 1500 feet. West at 16. Thats picked up a little bit. Thats a positive. The humidity has gone up. Well take that. As long as we dont get an easterly breeze or northerly breeze. It will be warm to hot today. I still think 95 to 100 today by this afternoon for some of those areas dealing with very hot conditions. So far theres really not much of a breeze. The very warm
Big change from 24 hours ago, when towering flames could be seen. Still, cal fire says the fire is only 21 contained at this hour. Its burned more than 3700 acres. A firefighter was treated for heat exhaustion. The morgan fire is burning on the eastern side of mount diablo. Back out here live at camp parks in dublin. This is the base camp. Cal fires mobile command is right behind me here. Essentially, it was the nerve operation for this entire system. Crews are in Constant Contact with crews up on that mountain. Ken wayne is monitoring the progress. He joins me now. Ken, whats it looking like from where you are . Reporter its a dramatic change, from last night when we had those huge flames. The fire moved from the east to the south side of the mountain, where we are right now, and looking over my shoulder, theres nothing to show you. We can see with the neighbored fear, small fires at like campfires. It is a sign that firefighters have turned the corner. Its much like going to war. The

Against a number of challenges on the fire line. The combination of poor access, the terrain, the high temperatures, and fuels being t dry as a result of the drought are contributing to the challenges. Agencies across the area are responding to the morgan fire. Helicopters and planes fighting from above and 250 firefighters on the ground. The fire is threatening dozens of homes. And as the flames burned, people who lived just on the edge of Mount Diablo State Park were ordered to leave immediately. Its nerve wracking and it makes you want to think about why you live out in an area like this. Reporter 50 to 75 homes were evacuates and some families outside of the evacuation area packed and left too. Scared and crazy that its so close to our home. Reporter this is live pictures.
