A big change from 24 hours ago, when towering flames could be seen. Still, cal fire says the fire is only 21 contained at this hour. Its burned more than 3700 acres. A firefighter was treated for heat exhaustion. The morgan fire is burning on the eastern side of mount diablo. Back out here live at camp parks in dublin. This is the base camp. Postgame edition of channel 2 news. We begin with breaking newses in contra costa county. A grass fire is threatening homes in clayton. We have the latest on evacuations. Theres a fierce firefight over that hill. You can see where theres so much smoke above. Helicopter are getting water on to this fire, they have been for the last couple hours. We were on the other side of the ridge as this was going on and it spread to 450 acres. This is the morgan fire. It runson Morgan Territory road. A large area of horse ranches on one side of the road and the east side of mt. Diablo is on the other side. Its hard to access for the 450 firefighters out here. Its been an air attack, helicopter just running back and forth, making water drops from a pond. They are trying to slow the advance of the blaze and its nervewracking for residents. Looking at the bay bridge. Right now its light coming across into San Francisco there is a new span we can see. There are no major problems at the toll plaza. It is light. Westbound traffic looks good. Also the morning commute is moving along nicely if you are driving into livermore valley. Driving through here to Castro Valley it has been nice. And then when we look at the east bay in general, 880 and 238 are doing well. Lets go back to the desk. We begin with developing news from the east bay. This morning that huge wild fire continues to burn. It started yesterday afternoon at Morgan Territory and marsh creek roads. Just outside of clayton. The fire has burned at least 800 acres. Its only 10 contained at this point. Alex savidge begins and tells us more help is on the way. Reporter there is more help coming later today. That is the update i got. 15 strike is coming in today. Diablo has a northwest wind at 25. Its a lot less than that. Its more of a westerly breeze. Yeah i saw not far away. A southerly breeze. Temperatures are going to be very warm again. Im focusing around 1500foot level here. 79 at 8 00 a. M. Southwest at 83. Fire between 95 and 100 today. Still a southwest wind. Lets hope it doesnt turn easterly i dont think so but it will still be very warm. 51 san jose. So another toasty day. Yet by the coast we are dealing with a lot of low clouds and fog. Tropical clouds stay south for now. Patchy low clouds. A lighter breeze. Although that low cloud deck looks like its mainly confined. Temperatures anywhere from 60 to two have a two its either an apartment or house on fire. This is somewhat close to interstate 880 although we are not seeing it effect the traffic on the freeway. That. Hey steve. I was tweeting with alex savidge and asked him what elevation. Fire officials tell him its been moving up toward the summit. So those canyons might make it a little tough. 50s and 10 s at the surface. Yet you get up anywhere from 1500 to 3800 feet and its very, very warm. This is mt. Diablo. 77 west at 12. Well take that over an east winds. That is for sure. Humidity very low. Fuel just bone dry. And forecasting the area it looks like it will be very hot. It wont take long. Well go 80 by 8 00 a. M. Its already 77. And between 9 and 100 later today. Lets hope we can hold on to a little bit more of a westerly breeze. 67 near antioch. And brentwood. 65 in livermore. 51 santa rosa. 63 san jose. San francisco 54. It will billion hazy kind of smoky. Livermore will be 99 today. Another sizzling day. If you are anywhere by the coast San Francisco as well. There is a lot of low clouds in place.
