BRAZIL, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – July 1 will mark the start date of Indiana’s official snack popcorn.
Popcorn was voted by the Indiana House of Representatives and Senate as Indiana’s official snack, with Governor Eric Holcomb making it official.
Indiana is the birthplace of Orville Redenbacher who grew up in Brazil. he then started his popcorn company that’s still a household name across the country. Staff with the Clay County Historical Society Museum say they’re excited to see popcorn take center stage.
“If you mention the name Orville Redenbacher, everybody knows that name,” Diane Harrison, curator for the Clay County Historical Society said. “Other people I have to tell about and they are very happy to know that we have those people or surprised. They’re surprised, but if you say Orville Redenbacher, you’re knowing to know popcorn.”
