Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh has sought postponement of the upcoming CBSE board exams for classes 10 and 12 amid the surge in COVID-19 cases across the country. Singh has written to Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank , pointing to the prevailing situation and stressing that it would only be appropriate that a decision is taken forthwith to postpone class 10 and 12 board examinations.

Amid the growing clamour for the cancellation of CBSE exams because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the exams for Class 10 have been cancelled, while CBSE Class 12 Board Exams 2021 have been postponed. The decision was taken during a meeting of Prime Minister Narendra Modi with Union Education Minister Ramesh Pakhriyal Nishank and other senior officials. The Board Exams for Class XIIth to be held from May 4th to June, 14th, 2021 are hereby postponed.The Board Exams for Class Xth to be held from 4th May to June 14th, 2021 are hereby cancelled, the government said in a press release on Wednesday. New Delhi [India], April 14 (ANI): Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia on Wednesday welcomed the Centre s decision to cancel Class 10 CBSE board exams and appealed that the same decision should be taken for Class 12 students as well. I am happy that Class 10 exams are being cancelled and dates are being rescheduled for class 12 exams. I know that Class 12 students will be anxious over the rescheduling, said Sisodia. Similar to what was done for Class 10 students, I appeal to the government to promote Class 12 students on the basis of internal assessment and pre-board exams. It is very important to stay at homes during these troubled times, he added.

Amid a massive surge in COVID-19 cases, keeping in mind the safety of students and teachers, several states including Chhattisgarh, Punjab and Maharashtra have postponed Class 10 and Class 12 board exams. While students, parents, among others are requesting the Centre to postpone the CBSE classes 10 and 12 Board exams scheduled to begin in May, several states including Delhi, Maharashtra, Punjab, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh have already postponed the state board exams.
