Ólafur Arnalds Shares Exquisite New Grass Short Film

Ólafur Arnalds has shared short film New Grass . Spring is a time for renewal, for finding the courage to look beyond the darkness winter can bring. It s a theme Ólafur Arnalds intends to tap into with his new piece, a song called New Grass . In true Arnalds fashion it unfolds at its own pace, a skeletal, yet utterly intoxicating composition that exhibits an entirely natural sense of grace. New Grass has been given the visual treatment, with photographer Benjamin Harman honing in on the world of Icelandic moss. Using a macro lens, the pair honed in on these microscopic elements, and found that when water - such as rain - hits the moss it creates movement, akin to dance.

How family, funk, and the desire to uplift shape his work. Montclair artist Topaz Jones has created a true body of work with his album ‘Don’t Go Tellin’ Your Momma . Music full of funk and soul, that acts as deep-dive into his childhood, hometown and what made him the man he is today. When the album wasn’t enough to communicate his art, he then turned it into a short film. One that went on to win a Sundance Short Film award. The film further looks into his hometown whilst focusing on those who are helping build communities. It makes for an educational and thought-provoking piece of art.

Squid - Bright Green Field

Reviews / / 06 · 05 · 2021 Squid aren’t an easy band to pin down. Live, they’re a mesh of arms and legs working in semi-unison – perhaps that’s where the sub-aqueous name comes from? – a group of musicians who yearn for spaces new, and ideas hitherto unexplored. On record, too, they’ve proved continually that resting on their laurels isn’t an option. Debut album ‘Bright Green Field’ encapsulates this, eschewing their prior works – that stellar EP, or 2020 singles ‘Sludge’ and ‘Broadcaster’ – in favour of wiping the slate clean, and starting anew. It’s proved to be a daring, and emphatically correct decision. A wrecking ball of innovative ideas that refuses to be wrestled into a pigeonhole, ‘Bright Green Field’ is an invigorating, inspired listen, and holds its head high as one of the most complete guitar debuts 2021 will witness.
