Schools suffer damage, begin repairs

Five Fort Hood schools suffered damage during the snow and ice storm that struck Central Texas last week, including Audie Murphy Middle School and Clarke Elementary, which suffered the most severe damage. “We have truly all experienced a surreal weather event that is going to require very coordinated recovery efforts,” Dr. John Craft, Killeen Independent School District superintendent, said during a virtual press conference regarding the community recovery process Friday. Dozens of schools and administrative buildings suffered water damage due to busted water lines and fire suppression systems due to the freezing ice and temperatures in Central Texas last week. Among Killeen ISD’s 54 schools and administrative buildings, 27 schools suffered damage and eight schools were without water at the beginning of the week.
