More than stunning views: the vineyards of Duoro s Quinta de la Rosa
In 1906, Claire Feueheerd was given a christening present that sounds as if it comes from the imagination of the Brothers Grimm. Quinta de la Rosa was bought expressly for her by her Yorkshire maternal grandmother. It consisted of a small house, which clung to the steep slopes that rise up from the Douro river in Portugal, plus 15 hectares of port vineyards, in the (ravishingly beautiful) back of beyond. After the Second World War, when her marriage to her Swedish husband Eric Bergqvist failed, Claire moved to live there full-time.
