Town 0-3 Southampton Tuesday, 3rd Mar 2009 23:50
Woeful Town fell to yet another home defeat as lowly Southampton left Portman Road having gained a well deserved 3-0 victory. It could have been worse for the Blues with the Saints missing a number of other chances.
Boss Jim Magilton made only the one enforced change from the team which lost 3-2 at Preston on Saturday, Pim Balkestein coming on at centre-half with Alex Bruce moving to right-back in place of the injured Moritz Volz.
The Blues began the game playing against a strong wind which the visitors made the most of, hitting a number of balls over the top for Marek Saganowski to chase.
QPR 1-3 Town Saturday, 21st Feb 2009 20:10
Goals from Jon Stead, Pablo Couñago and Jon Walters saw the Blues to a 3-1 win at QPR after conceding an early goal. The well-deserved victory, Town s seventh on the road this season, puts Jim Magilton s men just two points from the play-offs with 12 games to play.
Magilton made only one change from the side which beat Nottingham Forest in midweek, David Norris coming in on the right of midfielder for the injured Danny Haynes. The Blues continued with their 4-4-2 formation, despite the home side lining up 4-5-1.
As at Swansea a fortnight ago, Town went behind in the third minute from the game s first serious attack. After a freekick, Wayne Routledge was allowed to cross from the right and Samuel Di Carmine nipped in ahead of Jon Stead to hammer the ball past Richard Wright from close in.
