After unofficial election results showed Jimmy Crouch narrowly defeating Cheryl Lee for the open Place 4 Bastrop City Council seat by just four votes, an official recount in the election will occur Monday.
According to results released by the Bastrop County elections office on May 1, Crouch received 616 votes, or 50.2% of the vote, compared to Lee s 612 votes, or 49.8%.
A statement released by the city on Friday said the city received a petition on Thursday requesting a recount of the votes in the Place 4 election.
The statement said a recount, a process of verifying the number of votes in an election, was requested by Lee.
Bastrop City Council calls May election for Place 2, Place 4
Filing for a place on the ballot began Wednesday and runs through 5 p.m. Feb. 12.
Rogers has filed for reelection, according to the city secretary s office. Ennis announced he will not seek reelection.
The council on Tuesday, during its first meeting of 2021, also approved contractual agreements to hold a joint election with the Bastrop school district and for election services from the Bastrop County Elections Department.
The city will save money by having a joint election, according to City Secretary Ann Franklin, who said the cost to the city for a joint election would be about $16,570 while holding an election alone would cost the city about $24,400.
