Winter weather: How much will record cold cost Americans? Billions, according to AccuWeather

HOUSTON, Texas This week s brutal winter storms didn t just leave millions in Texas without power and heat, the record cold is also costing billions. AccuWeather estimates that the nation s total economic impact from the coast-to-coast winter storms will be between $45 billion and $50 billion. The weather is already causing problems at fuel and power facilities along the Gulf Coast, according to AccuWeather. These oil refineries, of course, take crude oil and transform it into heating oil and gasoline. I have no doubt some of them are going to be shut down, they are going to be frozen, they re going to be out of business, and that is going to have an impact on the price of heating oil and gasoline, said Dr. Joel Myers, founder and CEO of AccuWeather.
