Fairfield Community High School is holding in-person registration today from 1-6pm and tomorrow from 10am until 2pm in the school study hall/library. The fees for this year are as follows: Textbook rental and computer disk fee - $50 per student; Drivers Education Fee (if enrolled) - $50; Student Parking Paved Lot - $25; Student Parking Gravel Lot - $15; The Technology Fee of $55 has been waived for the 2022-2023 school year. Financial aid forms will be available at registration for fee waivers. Students should make arrangements to have their picture taken during registration, regardless of if a student does in-person or on-line registration. Pictures taken during this time will be used for the yearbook and their student ID cards. The ID cards can be used at all FCHS home athletic events to allow a student to get in free of charge. On July 5th the Wayne County Sheriff's Office conducted "Operation 96-6" This offender roundup was conducted in honor of Deputy Sean Riley. "Operation 96-6" is the result of investigations conducted by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office into the distribution and possession of illegal drugs in Wayne County. Warrants for numerous individuals were obtained with the assistance of the Wayne County States Attorney's Office. As a result, 12 suspects have been arrested and many being charged with new charges discovered during their arrest. Additional arrests are anticipated. 41-year-old Dustin R. The City of Fairfield has two police officers set to begin training at the state Police Academy this week, and the City will be starting a new eligibility list for hiring in a short time. The Fairfield Police Department has two open spots, at present, and Mayor Mike Dreith has confirmed the City has terminated the employment of Sergeant Justin Titzer. Officers Kody Moore, Josh Manahan, and Jeff Taylor opted to leave the department in the past several months for employment at the Wayne County Sheriff's Department. Titzer's termination comes on the heels of a complaint filed by Officer Titzer in U.S. District Court against the City, FPD, Chief Ritchie Fulkerson, and Assistant Chief Keith Colclasure. According to court documents, which were filed before Officer Titzer was officially let go, he is seeking redress for violations of his right to free speech under protection by the Illinois Whistleblower Act. The Edwards County Courthouse was cleared and evacuated yesterday morning for about three hours after a report of a suspicious package left near a courthouse door. The Secretary of State Bomb Squad was called to x-ray the unmarked, hand-sealed package, and their inspection found no suspicious items. Courthouse offices were cleared to open near noon, but court cases scheduled for yesterday were continued. 26-year-old Brodey I. Murbarger appeared in Wayne County Circuit Court yesterday morning. His attorney, Christian J. Baril, asked to continue the motion hearing on a change of location for the trial, which had been the purpose for the meeting. Wayne County Clerk Liz Ann Woodrow says there will be six contested races in the upcoming June primary election, all on the Republican side. She held a lottery yesterday morning to determine their placement on the ballot; in order, Crystal Ellis and Yvette Anderson have filed for Treasurer; Andy Glover and Randy Hedrick for District 2 on the County Board; Roy Estheimer, Eddie Barbre, and Brandon Bittles for District 3; Joshua Isle, Matt Shreve, and Jeremy Witter for District 5; Bill Bruce and Vern Hutson for District 6; and Gene Kollak, Steven Troyer, and Shane Neuman in District 7. Estheimer, Hutson, Kollak, and Neuman are incumbents. The primary election this year will be June 28th. Residents will be able to seek vote-by-mail ballots between March 30th and June 23rd, and in-person early voting will begin May 19th.
