The City of Fairfield has two police officers set to begin training at the state Police Academy this week, and the City will be starting a new eligibility list for hiring in a short time. The Fairfield Police Department has two open spots, at present, and Mayor Mike Dreith has confirmed the City has terminated the employment of Sergeant Justin Titzer. Officers Kody Moore, Josh Manahan, and Jeff Taylor opted to leave the department in the past several months for employment at the Wayne County Sheriff's Department. Titzer's termination comes on the heels of a complaint filed by Officer Titzer in U.S. District Court against the City, FPD, Chief Ritchie Fulkerson, and Assistant Chief Keith Colclasure. According to court documents, which were filed before Officer Titzer was officially let go, he is seeking redress for violations of his right to free speech under protection by the Illinois Whistleblower Act.
