The US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit on Wednesday upheld New York’s newly enacted party-qualification requirements, citing the state’s interest in “decluttering its ballots, preventing voter confusion, and preserving the public fisc.”
Only certain political parties qualify to have the names of their chosen candidates for public office on printed election ballots, despite there being dozens of political parties/organizations throughout the US. In the spring of 2020, the state of New York established new threshold requirements for candidates to get their names on ballots: political organizations must now earn “the greater of 130,000 votes or 2% of the vote in elections for President and for Governor to achieve party status and the automatic place on the ballot it confers.” New York previously conferred party status on political organizations winning “at least 50,000 votes in the quadrennial gubernatorial election.”

On December 28, the U.S. Second Circuit Court of Appeals sided with the Diocese of Brooklyn and the Orthodox Jewish group Agudath Israel in their attempts to overturn the tyrannical edicts of Governor Andrew Cuomo: he loves to impose occupancy limits on houses of worship. For those keeping score at home, this is Cuomo s third defeat in court.
The most recent setback for Cuomo came in the form of a 3-0 decision by the Second Circuit to block his restrictions which limit the capacity of worshipers to 10 in red zones and 25 in orange zones.

It’s fitting that 2020 would end with a federal court finally siding with religious institutions over New York’s arbitrary and restrictive COVID-19 regulations, put in place by left-wing politicians. New York City s bevy of ignorant elected officials has been showing their anti-religious bigotry for months without consequence.
On Monday, the Second Circuit in Manhattan sided with Orthodox Jewish communities and a Catholic diocese striking down New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s COVID-19 executive orders that limited seating capacities at houses of worship. The three-judge panel on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit unanimously said Cuomo’s arbitrary restrictions “discriminates against religion on its face.” The groups sued Cuomo over the restrictions back in October.
