Research finds that the prevalence of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) of uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC) from outpatient uncomplicated UTIs at KPSC has slightly decreased between 2016 and 2021, both for in-person and virtual settings, although the magnitude of the decrease was mostly small. Resistance to penicillins, fluoroquinolones, and TMP-SMX was common.
Antibiotic resistance is a global health threat. In 2019 alone, an estimated 1.3 million deaths were attributed to antibiotic resistant bacterial infections worldwide.
In a recent case report published in the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) journal Emerging Infectious Diseases, researchers reported a case of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) and Nocardia pseudobrasiliensis concomitant infection.
