Government owes retired MUPs about P5.58 trillion worth of pensions – that's nearly as large as the proposed budget for the entire government in 2024. This will surely contribute to the country's already colossal deficit and debt.
THERE has been much commentary on the termination of Finance Undersecretary Cielo Magno. Columnist Antonio Contreras, in my view, struck the right balance and had the proper perspective in his September 14 column on this subject. As most of the other commentaries seem to think her termination, firing or resignation (your take on what it was) was a sign of intolerance or worse. Let me add my view.
