Meet 103-year-old Chuck "Speedy" Lirette. Born on the bayou near New Orleans in January 1921, Lirette was just five years old when he began to dream of flying fast.
The local ski club has been a staple in Hay River, N.W.T., since 1974, but without new funding it could be closing its doors by April 15, 2025, according to one of its directors.

The Hay River Ski Club is yet another casualty of the dramatic flooding in the community earlier this month. "It’s just a snarl of trees and willows and driftwood and ice and mud," says president Chuck Lirette.
