Clarks shoes might not be the epitome of cool here in the UK, but in Jamaica, they hold a special place in Jamiacans’ hearts. Referenced in hundreds of reggae and dancehall songs, the “champion shoes” are the preferred footwear of gangsters, school children, Rastas, government officials and everybody in between, and it’s been that way for as long as anybody can remember.
Now One Love Books is releasing the long-awaited second edition of Al Fingers‘ cult classic, Clarks in Jamaica, updated with new interviews, photographs and previously unseen archive material.
With a focus on the Jamaican singers and DJs who have worn and sung about Clarks over the decades, this classic style reference explores how footwear made by a Quaker firm in the quiet English village of Street in Somerset from 1825 became the “baddest” shoes in Jamaica and an essential part of the island’s culture.

PRINCETON, NJ May 5, 2021- The local chapters of Our Revolution Somerset Country NJ, Trenton-Mercer-NJ, Middlesex County NJ, and Hillsborough NJ are pleased to host NJ LD16 Assembly candidates as they seek the Democratic nomination in one of the few contested Democratic primaries for NJ Assembly. HILLSBOROUGH, NJ Get to know the Democratic candidates running for the two open seats for the 16th Assembly District.
The local chapters of Our Revolution including Hillsborough and Somerset Country will host a virtual Democratic Candidate Forum on Tuesday, May 11 at 7 p.m. through Zoom and Facebook.
Democratic candidates Roy Freiman, Sadaf Jaffer, and Faris Zwirahn are all scheduled to attend the event.

Legislative District 16 is currently represented by Democratic Assemblymen Roy Freiman and Andrew Zwicker and retiring Republican Senator Christopher Bateman. Zwicker is running for the Senate seat for the next session. Freiman is running for re-election along with two challengers.

NJ Transit’s year-long Princeton transitway study is currently underway. The study is looking at the Princeton Branch right of way and travel connections to the branch, a 2.7-mile rail line that connects Princeton with Princeton Junction. The two-car train known as the Dinky currently runs along a single track in the right of way and is the shortest scheduled commuter rail line in the United States.
The study will help direct the future of transit service along this corridor. The study will evaluate existing conditions and estimate future demand for public transit along the corridor, taking into consideration planned developments such as the expansion of Princeton University, as well as new and emerging transportation technologies and other trends that are changing how and when people want to travel.
