Subscriber only When COVID-19 cut off Chris Neugebauer from his beloved schnitty dinner, he turned to his mate Dee Caldicott and a Mackay legend was born. Mr Caldicott leapt at the chance to help out his friend and within hours, word had spread that a takeaway schnitzel was still possible despite restaurant and pub closure across the state. So what started almost by accident has morphed into Mackay s newest restaurant that has a sassy edge to a simple recipe for success. It has also defied a trend of business struggles during lockdown, and has instead thrived into its new dine in and takeaway outlet in the CBD.

American inspired smokehouse and craft beer bar, Paddock and Brew, is now listed online as permanently closed . It is understood the restaurant, in the heart of Mackay s CBD, never reopened after the height of Queensland s pandemic lockdown. The Daily Mercury has contacted the former operator for comment.
