The choice was good politics and offers a hopeful sign that the new administration knows where America is hurting most as we muddle through this once in a century mass death event. According to Feeding America, the nation s leading anti-hunger nonprofit, during the pandemic food insecurity has spiked by 48 percent in Burlington County, which also makes up most of New Jersey s 3rd congressional district, something of a national weathervane that has flipped back and forth between Democrats and Republicans over the past decade.

Burlington County asks residents to shop local this holiday season BURLINGTON CITY Gift boxes dangle from the tall ceilings of Chrisie Styles Boutique. Red bows hang on purple walls above the fitting rooms, and poinsettias sprout up across the store.  Between a hat display and rack of fashionable dresses sits a golden-framed chalkboard, with “Welcome to Chrisie Styles Boutique. Face masks are required” scrawled across it in decorative handwriting.  It’s Christine Hooper’s first holiday season in her size-inclusive fashion store’s new space along East Broad Street, and with a strong start on Black Friday and Small Business Saturday, things looked promising.
