Henry Golding has boarded the big screen adaptation of Persuasion .
The upcoming Netflix film, which is based on the novel of the same name by Jane Austen, already had its leading lady, with Dakota Johnson set to play Anne Elliot, an un-conforming woman with modern sensibilities .
And now, Deadline reports that the Crazy Rich Asians star has bagged the role of Mr Elliot.
The plot is as follows: “Living with her snobby family on the brink of bankruptcy, Anne Elliot is an un-conforming woman with modern sensibilities. When Frederick Wentworth - the dashing one she once sent away - crashes back into her life, Anne must choose between putting the past behind her or listening to her heart when it comes to second chances.”
According to Deadline,
Crazy Rich Asians star Henry Golding has signed on to star opposite Dakota Johnson in Netflix’s upcoming reimagining of Jane Austen’s classic novel
Persuasion. He is set to portray the role of Mr. Elliot, who is being described as the callous and classic Austen foil.
The Malaysian-British actor will next be seen leading Paramount Pictures’ upcoming G.I. Joe spinoff
Snake Eyes which is scheduled to arrive in theaters on July 23, 2021. He is also lending his voice to Paramount Animation’s animated film adaptation of
The Tiger’s Apprentice which will also star Sandra Oh and Michelle Yeoh.

Henry Golding has signed on to play Mr. Elliot in “Persuasion,” Netflix and MRC’s upcoming modern-day adaptation of the classic Jane Austen novel.
The adaptation will star Dakota Johnson as Anne Elliot, a woman struggling against the constraints of her arrogant family whose wealth is rapidly disappearing, but finds herself getting a second chance at love when Frederick Wentworth, the man whom Anne fell in love with many years ago but let her family come between them, returns to her life. Golding will play the stuck-up patriarch of the Elliot family.

Henry Golding has been cast alongside Dakota Johnson in Netflix’s adaptation of the Jane Austen novel “Persuasion.”
The movie will serve as a modern-day retelling of the romantic drama, centering on the conforming Anne Elliot (Johnson), who lives with her snobby family on the brink of bankruptcy. When Anne, unmarried at 27-years-old, reconnects with Frederick Wentworth, a man she was once persuaded to reject, she faces a second chance at love.

Golding, who shot to stardom as the heartthrob Nick Young in “Crazy Rich Asians” and later led the romantic comedies “A Simple Favor” and “Last Christmas,” surprisingly has not been cast as the love interest. Instead, he will play Mr. Elliot, the cousin of Johnson’s character. Netflix has not announced the actor who will play Frederick Wentworth.
