welcome to inside politics. i m manu roaju in for dana bash. is donald trump immune from actions he took in office. that crucial question now in the hands of three judges on the d.c. court of appeal. trump says he cannot be prosecuted for trying to overturn the election because they were, quote, official actions he took while president. moments ago, we heard from trump himself. i think it s very unfair when an opponent, a political opponent, is prosecuted by the doj by biden s doj, so they re losing in every poll. and they re losing in almost every demographic. numbers came out today that are really very mind boggling if you happen to be joe biden. and i think they feel this is the way they re going to try to win. that was outside the courtroom, inside the court, with his d.c. criminal trial looming, trump s lawyer and the special counsel s office made their cases in the high stakes hearing today. if a president has to look over his shoulder or her shoulder every time

But well bring you that and other big moments from last night. Donald trump actually wasnt watching because he was instead on a stage by himself in michigan speaking to a crowd of mostly nonunion auto workers and criticizing the union strike against detroits big three. this is chris christie voters. an interesting question, asked christie voter, who would you say if christie was not your choice. haley, 65% of nikki haley would vote for nikki haley. christie has been saying for look at trump, less than 1%, that means less than 1%. but what they re saying here is that if christie wasn t in the race, potentially haley would have more support. because they re competing for the same voters. the same people looking for that alternative to trump are looking at chris christie and nikki haley. i think the problem for both chris christie and nikki haley, and woo veto give credit to her to get where she s at today, is that you have a base that is not really for them. it s that yes, the independents, the moderates will go for them, but is that going to really get them the nomination? and that s the problem. if only she could run in the general and didn t have to go through the primary, the nominating process, she would be in much better shape.
