Now a category 3 storm with winds of 115 miles an hour barreling through texas, collapsing buildings, plunging hundreds of thousands into darkness. The damage still unfolding tonight. We begin with matt gutman, though, whos been out in the punishing conditions throughout the night in Corpus Christi just 30 miles from where the hurricane came ashore. We had number of evacuations last night. We were trying to make sure people were safe in anticipation of any problems. We continue to push the lifesaving operations. We are continuing to evacuate people out of areas where the rivers have not receded yet. Leland the flooding damage is staggering. Neighborhood after neighborhood looks like this. A view from the air is even worse. Tens of thousands of homes are underwater and they could stay that way for weeks. In some parts of houston, the waters have receded. As you can see in this neighborhood, not so much. In other parts of the gulf coast, they could get an additional foot of rain. Real look at the destruction being caused by the storm. The sun is up there now. Theres not much left standing in the city of rockport, we know, according to cnns nick valencia, who is there. He has seen some buildings down there. He described cars with the windows blown out. Some stark descriptions coming from rockport. I want you to take a look at the damage that is being seen this morning now around Corpus Christi. Hurricane force winds ripped trees down. You see bricks off of that building. Street signs were torn down, and power lines. Thats one of the big stories this morning as well. Almost 300,000 people do not have power right now. I got it.
