Members of the Detroit Lakes Planning Commission recommended approval of a conditional use permit and rezoning for a proposed Eventide Senior Living Community on East Shore Drive by a 5-3 vote during their most recent meeting on Oct. 27. Dozens of residents from the east side of Detroit Lake showed up to the meeting and voiced their opposition to the facility. Next stop for the proposal will be the Detroit Lakes Community Development Committee on Nov. 7.
The Real Estate Company of Detroit Lakes is under new ownership and was purchased by a long-time realtor with the company in April 2021. Chris Nord, the company's new owner said he hopes to expand the multi-media reach with his listings by implementing 3D-tours and aerial drone footage for future listings. Also, the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development revised its latest state employment report for September which showed Minnesota reached 3.5% unemployment, the same percentage as March 2020 before the pandemic forced stay-at-home orders and health mitigation measures.
Members of the Lakes Country Association of Realtors have announced their incoming 2022 leadership board, according to a news release from the association. Additionally, Detroit Lakes-based CPA, Haga Kommer, has merged with Bekkerus Schott Helmeke DeConcini Johnson, Ltd., to create an accounting service expansion into Perham.
Woman gets lost ring back after 46 years, thanks to Facebook strangers

The woman had lost the ring the summer after she graduated high school in 1975.
A woman has been reunited with a class ring she lost 46 years ago, thanks to the kindness of a stranger on social media.
According to UPI, Mary Gazall-Beardslee from Michigan, USA had lost the ring in 1975 the summer after she graduated high school and never expected to see the keepsake again until she got a message on Facebook from Chris Nord.
“I received a message in my messenger that said, I have something that may belong to you. So, I was very cautious about opening it up. I thought, oh no, it s going to be spam or something ,” Gazall-Beardslee said.
