New Delhi: Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (SSY) is a popular girl child savings scheme that allows parents to invest for their girl child s future. The government-backed scheme fetches an interest rate of 7.6% and has a maturity period of 21 years and an investment period of 15 years. The normal age-limit for the opening of the SSY account is up to 10 years from the date of birth of the child. Also, one must be a resident of India to open the account. Once she reaches 18 years of age, she will become the account holder.
