Hurdles to Jagathy-Kootanvila scheme, commissioned in 1996, include land acquisition The Kerala Water Authority (KWA) has speeded up work on the long-delayed Jagathy-Kootanvila sewerage scheme, but indications are that the capital city may have to wait a bit longer to see this project commissioned as the KWA faces a number of hurdles.
Although the KWA launched the Jagathy-Kootanvila scheme in 1996, the commissioning has been delayed due to problems in acquiring land and the financial constraints of the KWA.
The KWA is now taking steps to quicken the pace of work and commission the scheme. Pending works include drawing the pipeline across the Killiyar. Land acquisition is required on both banks of the river for laying the pipes. Once this work is completed, the scheme can be partially commissioned, KWA officials said.
Coimbatore: Alarmed at the spurt in crime in the extended areas of the city, the police department has deputed 10 cops each from the armed reserve police to Saravanampatti, Peelamedu and Singanallur stations.
The three police stations fall under the east sub-divisions of the city police. Beat patrolling will be intensified in the three police station limits, deputy commissioner of police G Stalin said. “These stations cover vast newly-developed areas. To focus on these areas, 10 cops each from the city armed reserve police have been deployed there. They will conduct beat patrolling as well as vehicle checks,” he said.
On November 8, burglars decamped with 10 sovereigns of old gold ornaments and 2kg silver ornaments from a jewellery shop at Viswasapuram in Saravanampatti.
