STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. Mariners Harbor will have Staten Island’s first “bike boulevard,” a new city program aimed at improving conditions for cyclists, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Tuesday.
Netherland Avenue, which runs for less than a mile from South Avenue to Simonson Avenue, will be one of five streets chosen citywide for the new program.
“These bike boulevards, they’re going to come with a variety of measures to make it a safe environment for bicyclists and connect key bike lanes to each other,” de Blasio said. “This is all about creating a bicyclist friendly, pedestrian friendly environment, making it easier for folks to get around from one part of the city to the other.”
