Readers have experienced this disappontment most recently in anticipation of July 4th festivities.  After such a crazy year, everyone seemed to be anxiously awaiting these traditional summertime celebrations even more.  The archival boxes of fragile vintage issues of the Stoneham Independent are filled with stories of days gone by when weather and other circumstances sometimes caused huge unintentional consequences. Retired Chief Raymond Sorensen captured the essence of one such occasion in his book,  Stoneham s Great Fires and Tragic Events.

In Dauphin County, the way officials are dealing with people with severe mental health illness has been nationally recognized. Through a program implemented over the last few years, they ve been able to significantly cut down on the amount of people being held in the county prison.  mental illness is not a crime, said Dauphin County Commissioner George Hartwick when speaking about the county s Stepping Up program.
