The Supreme Court delivered another blow to the Trump Administration by deciding that the White House wrongfully ended the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program last year.
The DACA program was created by President Barack Obama through Executive Order in 2012 to allow undocumented immigrants who first came to the US when they were under the age of 16, had lived in the US since at least June of 2007, were enrolled in or already graduated high school, and had not been convicted of certain minor offenses. Applicants had to submit detailed personal information and pass background checks. Recipients who met the criteria became eligible for renewable, two-year grants of “deferred action” from deportation, and received work permits and Social Security numbers.

right? i think that s right, ari. and of course that will be much more friendly terrain, because mitch mcconnell will fundamentally be controlling the process. and i think something to watch for over the next couple of weeks as this moves inexorably towards a senate trial to what extent republicans will try to dictate witnesses can be called and how much time each side can have, and to what extent chief roberts who will be presiding over the trial will be promulgating those rules. i don t think we know that yet. i think in this phase, ari, in some ways most observers, i think all of us know fundamentally what the outcome is going to be. you re going to have a couple of articles of impeachment on the floor, and donald trump in all likelihood is going to be the third president in u.s. history to be impeached. we just don t know whether it s going to happen before we put on the 2020 glasses or after. gene? yeah, i agree. and jeremy mentioned something that i m kind of focused on but
of course we can t answer. what role is chief justice roberts going to play in this impeachment trial? will he take an active role, more like a judge in a courtroom? it s the senate s proceeding, so in that sense, it will be organized by mitch mcconnell. but the constitution does say that roberts, that chief justice presides. and he could take a more active role in deciding who testifies and deciding what areas they get into in keeping perhaps the president s allies from filibusters in the way that they might want to. and deviating off into crowd strike and ukraine and all sorts of matters that don t bear on the facts of this case. and jeremy, briefly, will the report from the intel based on your past experience be what we ve already seen in essence, a summary of the high points in the hearings, or will there be new and different information in it?
do you put ideological or political persuasions ahead of country. i think chief roberts is the one to watch. he s been desperate to keep the court out of the fray but the courts will certainly be in politics on this one. next on up 4how impeachmen inquiries will intensify. kraft. for the win win.
