where he s from. what sort of things motivate him. what sort of things may be troubling him and what he s capable of. then of course, those relatives and friends are going to be able to point out people who this person might reach out to in an effort to seek shelter, additional transportation or support of any kind. those are the kind of leads that enable you to direct the significant police resources we see out there on the ground. chief ramsey, you re the former police chief here in washington, d.c. as well as philadelphia. how do police in general approach a suspect like this who has both military and law enforcement training from the u.s. coast guard? well, they re able to locate him and just not stumble upon him and certainly you have a s.w.a.t., other specialty trained individuals. try to establish a line of communication with your negotiators. if you re able to do that, odds are you can successfully resolve it, but again, they ll be a lot
like some of these other cases where we ve seen recently, where someone rings the wrong doorbell or pulls into the wrong driveway and a homeowner comes out guns blazing. but you combine that with what appears to be, it sounds as though, a mass shooting here in this case in texas. it just keeps happening over and over again to the point where we were talking to chief ramsey in the previous hour. law enforcement just can t keep up with this. that s right. there have been more mass shootings in this country than there have been days of the year. that s something that should concern all of us. whether it s mass shooting tragedies started by domestic violence or simple accidents, like in texas where a cheerleader tried to get into the wrong car by accident and someone opened fire on her. you know, this is the logical outcome of allowing gun lobbyists to write our nation s gun laws. but i want to be clear, we are making huge progress.
what the cops are saying. now you just can t blindly fire in. you could hit a hostage. you get hit. a bank employee and not the bad guys. so you want to get a clear shot if you re able to in order to take him out. eventually he was able to get that shot. fortunately and kill him and chief ramsey, what do you make of how quickly the police and the local authorities actually released this body camera video? well again, you know, i think that things have definitely changed in policing and it s not just the police department is also your district attorney s whoever involved in the decision to release bodycam footage, but i think we have learned that the quicker you get it out. the better. uh and so you saw that in memphis, and now you see it here. that s even quicker than memphis. quite frankly, so, uh, you know, getting that information out as quickly as possible is important , and fortunately they were able to get it out. and what if i just go ahead, john. i just want to observe one othe
see is more experienced training officer corey galloway. he takes the patrol rifle from the trunk of the car. he charges that weapon, so it s ready to fire and they re doing what they re supposed to do, which is they re advancing towards the gunfire towards the danger. and you know very early in this scene, you see, officer wilson is hit. officer galloway finds cover puts the call over the radio that more shots are fired. there s an officer down and is trying to get a beat on that gunman with that rifle that he has, which, interestingly is the same rifle that the gunman inside the building has, um they are in obviously a very dangerous situation, but it never stops until it s resolved and this is what they call immediate action. rapid deployment moved to the gunfire . chief ramsey how do you assess the tactics on display here in that body camera video in the overall response? well, first of
shooting, plus the shooter, so that is a death toll of six so far, we don t know i m told whether the two adults include the shooter, but the total death toll so far, andrew is five. would you expect it? i imagine there is an expectation that this death toll could continue to rise and that we may learn learn of more who were killed in this upcoming press conference. that s absolutely positive possible. alex as chief ramsey mentioned just a little while ago one of the very first things that law enforcement has to do after they address the immediate threat, which they appear to have done here by by, um, taking out the shooter is they have to conduct a very thorough search of the entire grounds just to see how many victims they have see how many injured folks they need to send off to the hospital? that sort of thing. and you know, as that work
