Jamie Holter
After nine months serving as the City of Edmonds’ public information officer, Jamie Holter has resigned.
Holter who has worked in state and county communications for more than 15 years was hired in March to fill the newly created position of half-time public information officer/communications strategist. Her last day was Dec. 16.
That position was identified as a key priority for the mayor and city council when they added the job in the city’s 2020 budget, but Holter said that recent issues including the controversy surrounding the hiring of the new Edmonds police chief made it increasingly difficult to do her job.

Edmonds mayor reverses decision on chief of police hire UP NEXT
EDMONDS, Wash. One week after the Edmonds City Council voted to affirm the hiring of Sherman Pruitt to be the city s next chief of police, municipal leaders said Wednesday that the emergence of some red flags led to an abrupt decision to rescind the offer.
In a letter to Pruitt in which the job offer was retracted, Mayor Mike Nelson said Pruitt failed to mention in his application with Edmonds that he had applied for a similar job opening at the Lake Stevens Police department despite an inquiry by the city.

Sherman Pruitt
Edmonds Mayor Mike Nelson said Tuesday afternoon that the City of Edmonds won’t be proceeding with Sherman Pruitt as its new police chief and will launch a new national search in the new year “with a new slate of candidates.”
“Yesterday, the city received new information that Sherman Pruitt omitted relevant details from his application materials,” Nelson said in a statement. “Chief Pruitt explained that the omission was a mistake and the result of forgetfulness. Nonetheless, the inclusion of all relevant information is a requirement, and this omission has led the city to decide not to proceed with Chief Pruitt for the position of Chief of Police.”

The topic of the latest Black in Edmonds panel discussion? The Edmonds City Council’s 4-3 decision Dec. 8 to confirm Mayor Mike Nelson’s appointment of Sherman Pruitt as the city’s next police chief.
Two of the four Black in Edmonds panelists appearing Saturday via Facebook Live Alicia Crank and Richard Taylor Jr. sat on the community panel that Mayor Nelson appointed to interview both police chief candidates. Both stressed that contrary to the belief of some the panel did not make a recommendation for a preferred candidate between Pruitt, now Sauk-Suiattle Tribal Police Chief, and Edmonds’ Acting Police Chief Jim Lawless.
