US State Department Concerned on Media Curbs in India Physical attacks and “coordinated hate campaigns” against journalists cited
In a wide-ranging report on human rights violations in India in the year 2020, the US State Department Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor, has, among other things, detailed attacks on press and media freedom.
Released on March 30, the report quoted Indian journalists as saying that press freedom declined during the year. It quotes
Reporters without Borders 2020 World Press Freedom Index as saying that physical attacks and “coordinated hate campaigns waged on social networks” against journalists were cited as major areas of concern.

Kolkata, March 16 : Tripura s BJP government has been left red-faced by an Agartala High Court order this week quashing a lookout circular intended to prevent the entry of an NRI hailing from the state into India.
Saumen Sarkar, a Vice-President with the Bank of America, runs the Tripura Infoway news portal that focuses on his home state.
Sarkar says he has encouraged fearless reporting in his news portal which got him into trouble with both the former ruling CPI-M and then with the incumbent BJP governments.

BJP NE in-charges arrive in Tripura after Chief Minister Biplab Deb sparks controversy with his remark on Nepal and Sri Lanka
Agartala, Feb 18 (UNI) BJP’s organisational secretary of northeast Ajay Jamwal arrived here last evening along with RSS regional in-charge Ullas Kulkarni, amid controversy triggered by Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb s statement that Union Home Minister Amit Shah during his stint as BJP s national president had once said though the party had come to power in several states, Nepal and Sri Lanka were still left.
Last night, Jamwal and Kulkarni held discussions with the Chief Minister and met with the party leaders over organisational issues, ongoing squabble between two factions of the party, dissidence against the Chief Minister and infighting among the workers in different parts of the state.
