Residents of Highland Park will mark the one-year anniversary of last year's July 4th parade massacre that killed seven when one gunman Robert Crimo III opened fire on a parade route with a memorial march to "reclaim" the space.
The city of Highland Park is now less than a month away from marking one-year since the parade shooting that took the lives of seven, and left dozens of others injured.
“There’s no question the mutual aid we received is what carried the day for us to be successful as we could be,” Highland Park police Chief Lou Jogmen says.
Since the state’s red flag law went into effect in 2019, just 228 firearm restraining orders have been granted across the state and 21 in Lake County, home to Highland Park. Some believe more training could increase those numbers.
