Erratic weather delays reopening of Zojila pass
Kargil, Apr 19: The authorities in Kargil district of Ladakh UT Monday assured that the strengthened efforts are underway to make Zojila pass-through for vehicular movement, and most likely road clearance operation will be completed by tomorrow (Tuesday).
A joint team of Administration, Council, Army Police, Health Department, and others Monday reviewed the ongoing reopening process of Zojila pass the only motor-able road to Kargil.
Talking to a selected media persons at the Zojila pass, Chief Executive Councilor (CEC) Feroz Ahmad Khan, as per news agency Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said that there is no delay in the reopening of Zojila in the ensuing year since the weather wasn’t favorable at all. “Had it been pleasant, the road would have been made through in February only. Despite erratic weather, executing agencies worked hard,” Khan said.

In a significant move, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has formed a committee to look into the demand for Sixth Schedule status by leaders from Ladakh. This demand has been brewing since the Abrogation of Article 370 which resulted in the bifurcation of J&K and Ladakh into separate administrative entities.

JAMMU, Dec 29: To break the ice on 6th Schedule demand for Union Territory of Ladakh, Union Home Minister Amit Shah today called apex body of Leh, which had spearheaded agitation for safeguards to the UT, socio-religious, political heads and new elected Chief Executive Councilor (CEC) Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Leh, to New Delhi for a meeting on January 5.
While Thupstan Chhewang, prominent leader of the People’s Movement for Sixth Schedule and two-time Lok Sabha members, received a direct call from Shah for a meeting today, the Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA), which was also expecting an invite from the Home Minister, didn’t receive any call. However, Chhewang had decided to approach the KDA to join the delegation with them.
