NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Newport News Police Department says the 3-month-old boy who was reported missing Thursday morning has been found safe.
In an update during a press conference Thursday night, Newport News Police Chief Steve Drew said the child, Jiraiya Cherry, was found in Chesterfield.
Around 10:19 a.m. Thursday, police responded to the 13300 block of Preakness Drive in reference to a missing child. Jiraiya was reportedly abducted by an unknown babysitter.
Shortly after Newport News Police sent out their release, Virginia State Police and the Virginia Missing Children Clearinghouse issued an AMBER Alert for Jiraiya around 5 p.m.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Newport News Police Chief Steve Drew apologized to Maurice Williams and his family after Williams was wrongfully arrested last week at his place of employment and spent two nights in jail.
News 3 spoke exclusively to Williams, his girlfriend Christina Brown and Chief Drew about the mistake.
Williams works as a cook and said he was about to go on break last Tuesday afternoon when his supervisor asked him to go out back. He was then greeted by officers.
